WHAT WE USE

SINGLE MINE ORIGIN GOLD

After many years of working with recycled gold, we began to look more closely at what true transparency means in practice. Today, the majority of the gold we use in our workshop is Single Mine Origin gold from the Bellevue Mine in Australia - a renewable-energy-powered operation that has achieved net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions onsite. This allows us to trace our gold back to one known source, with clearly defined environmental standards, giving us greater certainty around provenance while continuing to reduce our carbon footprint.

100% Recycled gold

100% recycled gold continues to play an important role in our work. It typically carries lower carbon emissions than newly mined gold and allows existing material to remain in circulation. We use recycled gold for our wedding rings and selected pieces where it remains the right choice, recognising both its environmental benefits and the limitations that can exist around tracing its original source once it enters large-scale recycling streams.

FAIRTRADE AND FAIRMINED

We also work with Fairtrade and Fairmined gold and are proud to have produced the world’s first piece of Fairtrade Gold jewellery. It was handcrafted by our founder and Master Goldsmith, Jos - a simple wedding band that he still wears today. Through Fairmined credits, we support certified mining communities such as Iquira in Colombia. While some pieces may use reprocessed gold, we fund the equivalent amount of responsibly mined gold through the Fairmined credit system. This helps bring ethical, traceable gold into the market, empowers mining communities, and promotes higher environmental and social standards.

OUR GOLD

Until 2026, our standard gold was 100% recycled post-consumer gold. While we remain strong advocates of recycling, we’ve had to acknowledge that the chain of custody for recycled gold is not always fully transparent. Until we can guarantee exactly where recycled gold has come from and that it has already lived at least one full lifetime of use, we have chosen to make Single Mine Origin (SMO) gold from the Bellevue Mine in Australia our standard for stock and bespoke pieces from 2026. Bellevue is the world’s first net-zero mine (Scope 1 and 2 emissions), powered by a high-penetration renewable hybrid energy system combining wind, solar, battery storage, and verified carbon offsets. For us, it’s essential to know where our gold comes from and to ensure it is produced with the least possible environmental impact. While SMO gold is now our standard material, we can source any type of ethically sourced gold or precious metal should our customers prefer an alternative. We also continue to support artisanal and small-scale mining communities through Fairmined’s credit system.

What is Ethical Gold?

OUR PLATINUM

Stunning when paired with responsibly sourced diamonds for your engagement or wedding ring, our post-consumer recycled platinum is the whitest precious metal and is 95% pure. As the toughest and most durable of all precious metals, our recycled platinum is an excellent choice for jewellery you want to wear every day. And by purchasing from us, you’ll know you’re not only getting a handcrafted, limited-edition or bespoke piece that will last a lifetime, you’re also helping to protect the planet by avoiding newly mined mentals.

OUR SILVER

Our sparkling post-consumer recycled sterling silver is 92.5% pure and is a beautiful choice for your new favourite piece of jewellery. We wouldn’t recommend using it for your engagement or wedding ring though, as it is a softer, less durable metal, and so might not withstand being worn every day for a lifetime. If you’re here for rings to say ‘I do’, we’d recommend choosing our post-consumer recycled platinum or gold.

RESPONSIBLE CASTING

Responsible Casting Co. is our sister company, created to place responsibility, transparency and craftsmanship at the centre of jewellery casting. Working exclusively with recycled and ethically sourced precious metals, Responsible Casting Co. ensures that the transformation from raw gold grain to finished form happens under one roof, with full accountability at every stage. It’s a natural extension of how we believe jewellery should be made: considered, collaborative and built to last.
