I'm Alice; I manage communications and marketing for E.C. One and I am getting married in October.
I thought this would be a great opportunity to let you in on the inner workings of our fantastic team as they make my bespoke engagement ring.
Seeing it all come together over the last few months has been such a unique and exciting process, and I wanted to share the story of how it was designed and made...
Hopefully, this will give you a fuller understanding of how our Bespoke process works.
Designing the Ring
It is hard to resist designing your dream ring when you are photographing so much beautiful jewellery every day.
As a team, we always discuss our favourite elements of the rings we make how we would picture our ring. So when my fiancé asked if I wanted to design my ring or keep it as a surprise, I jumped at the chance to get involved.
I had an idea of what I liked, and after chatting with the team, they recommended that we find a stone first and base the design around it. Elise (our workshop manager) found a selection for me to look at, and after much deliberation, I chose this beautiful bi-colour, greeny-blue sapphire.
I love that the stone has its own set of unique imperfections and so many colour variations in the light. I also picked two carre-cut diamonds (square diamond cuts featuring step facets) as side stones.
Choosing the Setting
Since working at E.C.One, I have loved all the flush-set rings we've made.
This is when the stone is set directly into the band and sits flat with the surface of the metal. I am a painter in my spare time; I need my ring to be a style I can wear while I work. Flush setting the stone felt like a more secure, minimalist option that suited my style and lifestyle.
From CAD to Casting
Once I had picked the stone and decided on the direction of the design, Brogan (our CAD designer) drew up a 3D render and model of the ring. We made some minor changes to the shape and placement of the side stones and then sent the design off to be cast in Platinum - a tough and durable white metal, which suited me as a silver wearer.
Our workshop then cleaned and polished up the casting ready for the final stages.
Setting the Stones
I got a sneak peek and even had a go at filing down the casting; safe to say, our goldsmiths make it look much easier than it is...
Grant, our setter, then set the stones into the ring, and I had to wait (impatiently) to see it!
