Please Judge Us!
It’s B Corp Month and we have been certified since 2019. We are proud to be part of this global movement, but for us it was never about a badge. It was about building a business we could use for good and still make a profit, without feeling that the two were in conflict. Becoming a B Corp also means welcoming scrutiny from people with high standards, and we think that is healthy. It forces you to look carefully at how the business actually operates rather than how it describes itself.
What B Corp Certification Means for a Jewellery Brand
B Corp certification isn’t easy. It looks well beyond product and branding and examines governance, workers, community, environment and customers in detail, requiring evidence at every stage. It also meant changing our Articles of Association at Companies House so that people and planet are formally written into how the company runs. That shift matters, because it means we cannot simply describe ourselves as responsible jewellers; we must be prepared to demonstrate it.
We are fortunate that our customers trust us to mark significant moments in their lives. A promise of marriage, an anniversary, the birth of a child, and sometimes something more difficult, such as remembering someone who is no longer with us. Jewellery at that point is not simply decorative; it represents connection and commitment between people. With that in mind, it would feel inconsistent to celebrate love and loyalty using materials or practices that cause harm. That principle has shaped the way we have built the business from the beginning.

In-House Craftsmanship in Our London Workshop
Our roots are in craftsmanship, and that has never been a marketing decision. We have always produced our work in our London workshop, which remains visible from the shop floor, because we do not believe the making should be separated from the selling. Unlike some jewellery brands, we do not outsource production overseas. We employ a close-knit team, mostly women who have been with us for many years. The work is hard, but friendships are deep. We provide pensions and private healthcare and invest in apprenticeships because skill needs support to flourish. London is expensive and we pay as much as we can because we value the people who make the work possible.

Responsible Sourcing: Metals and Gemstones
We are equally deliberate about where our materials come from, and we continue to refine our sourcing as our understanding develops. We use recycled gold and precious metals as standard and support responsible small-scale mining through Fairmined credits. Where traceability is strong, we say so; where it is imperfect, we say that too. Jewellery sits within an extractive global system, and pretending it is impact-free would be dishonest. What matters is whether those impacts are taken seriously and addressed with care rather than brushed aside.

Reducing Our Environmental Impact as a Jewellery Brand
Environmental accountability is approached in the same spirit. We measure our carbon footprint in fine detail each year and operate on renewable energy. We have mitigated our emissions and continue working on reduction because responsibility is not solved in a single decision. Since 2019 we have given 1% of our turnover to environmental causes, not as a campaign but as part of how the business functions. When profits are under pressure, 1% of turnover is still a difficult choice.
Last year we were named ‘Responsible Jewellery Business of the Year’ by our peers. Like B Corp, that kind of recognition is invaluable because it is an assessment from outside the company, but it only matters if the day-to-day reality supports it.

Sustainable Jewellery That Reflects Commitment
Jewellery is rarely simple. Responsible practice involves trade-offs, revision and sometimes changing course. We haven’t got everything right, and we don’t claim to. What we do have is a business structured to be examined, and we are prepared to explain the reasoning behind our decisions.

Why Scrutiny Matters
If we are going to make beautiful jewellery that represents commitment and permanence, then our company should be able to stand up to inspection.
So please do judge us. We are happy to be judged. It keeps us honest and striving to do better - for the people we source from, the team we work with, or those who trust us to mark the moments that matter.
If you’d like to know more about how we source our materials or craft our jewellery, we’re always happy to talk openly about our process.
