In Isolation with Ella Stern

Ella Stern
This week we had a virtual chat with our designer Ella Stern. She shared some of what she has been up to in isolation. We really enjoyed her suggestions and hope you do too.
I'm not someone who is good at sitting still for long so along with working on a couple of new collections, I have been managing to keep pretty entertained throughout lockdown! Getting inspired by books, rifling through old photos and enjoying art and theatre online…

Online Exhibitions:
I normally love going out to see exhibitions so its great to see that lots of museums are getting a dose of culture to us digitally! Some have put together short clips with artists and curators and others, mini-tours around their exhibitions which are lovely. Here are some of my favourites:

Exhibitions: The Picasso exhibition showed you round accompanied by calming music - it was surprisingly such a relaxing activity and probably made me concentrate on more of the paintings than had I gone to the gallery. Plus you can enjoy with a cup of tea/ glass of wine/ cocktail - always a plus.

Coffee table books:
Coffee Table books
Finally! Rather than sitting and looking pretty, I have finally had the time to actually look through all the coffee table books I have bought over the years!  I am loving working my way through them and rediscovering all the artists and photographers I love. They are also getting me inspired for future collections!

Podcasts:
I devourer Podcasts! Particularly when I am making jewellery. I enjoy anything interview-based with interesting people. Right now its positive vibes only! These are some of my favourites:

Desert Island Discs - my favourites have been  Tom Hanks, Dustin Hoffman, Jo Malone, Sue Perkins and Levi Roots!
How To Fail with Elizabeth Day - the Kelly Holmes interview is my favourite - so motivating and inspirational. An empowering podcast if you're in need of some of that right now!

Going through old photos:
I am loving looking through old family photos and recently found an album of my mum on holiday in the seventies when she was my age.

Theatre:
National Theatre has been streaming plays every Thursday on YouTube which is great. I loved seeing One Man Two Governors again a couple of weeks ago!
