Aquamarine

Sparkling ocean blue or pale duck egg green, aquamarine is a shade reminiscent of summer. Aquamarine is Latin for ‘aqua’ and ‘mare’ meaning ‘water’ and ‘sea’ , the colours found in this stone suit this description perfectly.
This gemstone has always had an affiliation with the sea. Legend has it that the aquamarine is a sailor's lucky stone. The tale depicts mermaids keeping the gemstone hidden in treasure chests offering it to sailors in distress during storms.
Varying from the prettiest pale blue to deep turquoise colour with a light green shimmer, this is a much loved gemstone.
The birthstone for March, the aquamarine represents calmness and tranquility. The allure of this stone and the serenity that is exudes make it the perfect gemstone for spring and summer collections. It is often a colour used in both fashion and jewellery to celebrate the arrival of summer months.
Aquamarine is a beryl, the same mineral as both emerald and morganite but unlike emerald, aquamarine is known for its crystal clear appearance. Typically the more saturated the colour the more desirable the stone but generally aquamarine is recognized as a pale shimmery blue.
The most valuable aquamarines come from Brazil, but the gemstone is also mined in Kenya, Nigeria, Madagascar, Zambia, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Russia.
This beautiful stone has a hardness of 7.5-8 on the MOHS scale which makes it durable for engagement rings and we use this stone regularly for bespoke commission rings and for many beautiful pieces that we have in store.
Aquamarine looks beautiful set in icy white for a delicious cool toned ring or as vibrant as a summer's day when set in rich gold.
If you are looking for a delicate colored gemstone that has endless sparkle, choose aquamarine.
