Out & About in June

The EC One Post

As restrictions are lifting our June blog includes suggestions for visiting, eating and drinking inside - exciting!

We hope you like them and of course we'd love to hear from you if there are places/books/podcasts you think we should be recommending or checking out.

Much love

Out & About...

This month Jo's tip is to head off to Greenwich.

I am a big fan of a stately home and Eltham Palace is definitely one of my favourites.

The former home of the eccentric Courtauld family, this impressive mansion (based in Greenwich) is an amazing mix of architectural styles. My favourite part of the house is the Art Deco entrance hall which is a surprising contrast to the buildings Tudor exterior. The futuristic domed roof, beautiful wood inlay walls and 1930’s furniture look incredible and this is just the start of what’s to come!

Eltham Palace Interiors

Gold mosaic bathrooms, maple veneered walls and, of course, the impressive Great Hall with its medieval hammer-beam roof make this house an interior design lover’s dream.

Thoroughly recommend visiting...in fact I’m going to go again it’s that good!

visit Mikkeller on exmouth market london
Our lovely neighbours Mikkeller brew their own beer on-site as well as serving great food.
Last week they launched two new beers including the 'Lene 2021' which is named after co-owner Rick Astley's (yes that Rick!) wife.
The new Danish-inspired gastropub menu is also live and was created by Chef Owen Kenworthy (ex Brawn & The Wolseley no less) - so come for the beer but definitely stay for the food!

Small Changes...

Toilet Twinning banner
This month we have 'twinned' our staff loo at Exmouth Market with one in Malawi via the charity Toilet Twinning.
They have a brilliant approach that is community-focused lead by local partners and includes hygiene education as well as support building latrines.
You can read more about how they work below and maybe consider twinning a loo at work or at home.

This Week...

...we're listening to the podcast 99% Invisible.
We love this podcast, hosted by Roman Mars, as it explores the ideas behind objects and architecture - things that most of us just don't notice or realise.  Our favourites include:

Thanks for reading and have a great week!
