Ciara’s striking designs were an instant hit with the EC One team, with her statement jewellery certainly creating an impact. Ciara sights jewellery as the ultimate form of expression, and we certainly feel like expressing ourselves through some of Ciara’s hero like pieces. Read more about Ciara’s work….

Originally a native East Londoner, Ciara Bowles’ tastes in colours and aesthetics have formed through being surrounded by a multitude of cultures and the urban environment.

The medium of jewellery as the ultimate form of expression, the jewellery Ciara makes is designed to make a statement, aiming to fascinate the viewers, to create objects whose aesthetics and tactility are exciting, compelling them to take a closer look.

Colour, pattern, material and scale are what excites Ciara, colour being the most important medium of all. She strives to create bold and eye-catching combinations that may be vulgar to some, yet beautiful to others but most importantly evoke a strong emotional response.

The patterns and forms in plants, flowers and microscopic images of the two provide her with an endless source of visual inspiration. so much so that you can be lost in the beauty of them.

Ultimately it is the impulse to make both the wearer and the observer aware of the jewellery, and through creating interesting structures, a brilliant colour and an amusing tactile quality that drives Ciara to create intriguingly beautiful objects.

Who doesn’t want to be as pretty as a peacock? Annabelle’s bold designs instantly caught team EC One’s eyes with the peacock a true embodiment of luxury and decadence. Annabelle’s illustrative nature is evident in the intricacy of her work. In Annabelle’s own words….

Annabelle’s graduate collection is one of luxury and decadence. An avid illustrator, Annabelle transfers her delicate illustrations by etching to create metallic graphics in the form of beautiful pairs of Peacocks, Majestic Tigers, Tropical Parrots and Lions. The collection focuses on the contrast of these intricate forms and that of delicate, precise geometry, bringing traditional techniques such as Filigree, into the present. Drawing inspiration from Oriental decoration, the collection was based around a main decorative motif that Annabelle designed. This motif is used to create the streamlined Marquise-shaped forms in the necklace. The link between the 2D graphics and the 3D Jewellery is evident and adds another dynamic to the collection and its story. The collection also features modern stone setting, and items range from elegant elongated necklaces to delicate earrings. With the whole collection designed around components that can be pared-down or used to their full decadence, this collection is not only for ostentatious, catwalk pieces, but everyday, versatile accessorizing.

The magpies at EC One were drawn to the colourful glisten in Katie’s work. Katie’s use of angular lines and highly polished metal creates a reflection which amplifies the stones resulting in a kaleidoscopic rainbow. Here’s how Katie describes her work….

Katie Jamieson has always had an appreciation for the sharp, clean structural lines found in architecture. Juxtapose these with the colours and forms found in nature and you get some sense of the main source of inspiration for her jewellery.

Entitled ‘Hidden,’ this collection is directly inspired by the secret garden within the 2011 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in Hyde Park.

In some pieces, the stones nestle inside their architectural havens to be revealed only with the movement of the hand. Enjoyable and tactile, these pieces emit a satisfying rattle and click as if some secret is hidden within them. In others, the highly polished interior multiplies the diamonds, tsavorites, sapphires and rubies producing a kaleidoscopic garden of colour.

Bold cuffs have made a huge comeback and have become a wardrobe staple, team EC One liked Sara’s refreshing take on this form of body ordainment and clever combination of metal and leather. In Sara’s own words….

Sara’s love of texture and fascination for the beauty found within the body on a microscopic scale form the basis for her current collection of ‘Skin’ cuffs. Based on the idea of beauty in imperfection they explore the changes in skin texture, scars and flaws that develop through a life well lived.

The cuffs are made from leather and metals which are richly textured with patterns derived from human skin. Inspired by the sensuous, tactile qualities of organic materials and forms, Sara aims to bring these qualities to her own work. She employs a variety of etching and embossing techniques to create the textures in this collection, and the manual nature of these processes ensures that every piece is unique.

At EC One we love celebrating all that is handcrafted in jewellery and Daniela takes this to another level by hand crafting her jewellery using components such as horse hair, with Daniela’s work already gannering her awards and press from magazines such as Stylist we see a bright future for this jeweller. Daniela’s work in her words….

Daniela Cardillo is concerned with finding beauty in and making use of death and discard. Each piece is entirely handcrafted using horsehair, and in some cases also rodent bones. The hair weaving technique stems from historic Victorian mourning jewellery. The bones are electro-formed and then 22kt gold plated encasing individual relics of past lives. Her work strives for the ability to create beauty which transcends stigmas of often undesirable objects. The pieces are not a simple reminder of death, but an alteration of it, vitalizing past life fragments.

At first glance you would never think that Fern Jelleyman’s work was inspired by climbing and the clever technology found in this extreme sport. The industrial clasp for the necklace and interweaving of colour combine to create Fern’s bold fashion jewellery. In Fern’s own words….

The minimal, sleek and smooth technology used in climbing was the starting point of this collection. Contradicting and combining climbing accessories with knitted hand-made rope with soft craft connotations is the innovation which makes the pieces into exciting, detailed modern fashion jewellery.
