Having designed her own jewellery for over 20 years, in 2010 Ceyla Gungor launched her Jada Fine Jewellery brand, creating beautiful pieces for the everyday. With the new (and exclusive) Reina silver bracelets arriving on our shelves and website this week, now seemed like the perfect opportunity to find out more about EC One’s newest designer…
Describe yourself in 10 words or less…
A happy, energetic person who loves traveling and meeting people.
Tell us a little bit about your job and what you love about it…
I am one of those lucky people who can turn their passion into a job. I love the fact I can design affordable fine jewellery for everyday. I got into jewellery design by chance, really, because someone loved a bracelet I designed for myself – that encouraged me to do more and more. Then, after the birth of my twins my life changed completely, and I needed flexible hours. That was the push I needed to strike out as an independent designer. Now, I love it. It’s challenged my entrepreneurial skills, but I like being my own boss.
What are the three pieces you find yourself wearing constantly?
Right now? I wear a lot of my own designs, so it would have to be my bar bracelet from Juju collection with bright red silk thread, oval and teardrop necklaces with rubies from my Zea collection and tiny hoops from my Basic line.
What is your most treasured possession?
My wedding band and also the ring my mother passed on to me when I gave birth to my twins. This is the ring my father gave her when she had me and I will pass it on to my daughter one day… I love the idea of passing on jewellery, with all its history and personal significance.
It sounds like family is really important to you. Apart from spending time with them, what’s your favourite way to unwind?
Cooking! I love to spend time more time in the kitchen and cook amazing meals for my family. My kids inspire a lot of my work, actually – just from watching what they do, eat, or play with…
How sweet! On to a few quick fire questions:
Who is your favourite artist?
Difficult to choose as there are so many I admire for different reasons – I would say Haluk Akakce has been on my radar recently.
Who would you love to see wearing your jewellery?
Women who like to have a little sparkle in their lives, and who are happy to buy their own diamonds!
What was the last exhibition/concert/ play/ performance you went to?
Singing in the Rain 2 weeks ago and I absolutely loved it
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us
I’m a terrible driver.
Where in the world have you always wanted to visit?
I would love to go and see the Northern Lights
What is your favourite trend for this season?
Bright colours for sure
What is your most hated trend, now or from last season?
Personally, I just couldn’t get the hang of geometrical patterns
