Diamond Earrings | Wardrobe Staples

At EC One our range of beautiful diamond earrings come in all shapes and sizes, but regardless of style or budget, all of our diamonds are guaranteed to be conflict free.

Diamond studs are a timeless look and bring a little luxury to everyday life. Our studs are classic single stones or contemporary clusters of pavéd diamonds. At the other end of the spectrum, we have stunning diamond hoops and drops which make a glittering statement.

Of course, if you have a particular design or style in mind, we can work with you to create it in 18ct Gold or Platinum in our London workshop. Alternatively, you may have some loved but little worn earrings that you would like to have re-modelled. Again, we can give them a new lease of life, so instead of them sitting at the back of your jewellery box, they can be worn and loved again.

If you would like any more information about our bespoke and re-modelling service please don’t hesitate to call us or email us at bespoke@econe.co.uk

What could be more exciting this Spring than a delivery of gorgeous Alex Monroe jewellery, packed full of classic pieces and new favourites to add a touch of whimsical fancy to any outfit! Dainty flowers and cute woodland creatures make Alex Monroe jewellery a firm favourite with both EC One staff and customers.
Alex Monroe was established in 1987, when Alex set up a little studio in South London to design and make jewellery. Now, demand for Alex’s jewellery is worldwide and ever increasing, the simple beauty of nature is always inspiring to Alex, and his love for wildlife and the great outdoors is apparent throughout his collections. We love Alex’s signature style: delicacy and detail, always with a sense of English-ness, and have done since we became one of his first London stockists in 2004.

Friendship Bracelets

Friendship bracelets are no longer the domain of teenage girls, oh no! Originally these colourful bands were invented by Indians in Central and South America and traditionally woven from thread. According to tradition, you tie a bracelet onto the wrist of a friend who may wish for something at that moment. The bracelet should be worn until it is totally worn-out and falls off by itself, at which moment the wish is supposed to come true.

Here at EC One we have friendship bracelets in all colours, metals, beads and styles. From the traditional woven cord or leather from designers such as Lindsay Pearson and Helena Rohner to more luxurious offerings from our own workshop made with 9ct gold and semi-precious stones.

So if you want to follow tradition and grant you best friend a wish or simply treat yourself to something you can wear every day, we have something to suit every style and budget. Worn alone as a simple nod to the trend or layered in swathes of contrasting colours, patterns and textures, this look is a fun way to show your individual style and update your outfit to suit your mood.
Creating Bespoke Jewellery With Melissa McArthur
It’s been a busy week as a buyer for EC One with lots of new jewellery deliveries and meetings with designers to discuss new projects. One of my favourite deliveries was from London based jeweller Melissa McArthur.
A few weeks ago I visited Melissa McArthur’s new studio tucked away in Shephards Bush. We had the wonder of rummaging through her gem trays to find pieces to create bespoke jewellery for our SS13 collections. All carefully made in London by Melissa and her team, the combination of the natural stones and the hand twisted signature in Melissa’s bead work allows for a truly unique piece of designer jewellery. After a good hour of sifting through exotic Rubies, alluring Tanzanites and alluring Pearls we managed to create a truly unique jewellery collection specially for the EC One customer.

After we had chosen the colour ways we then had to pick gemstones. Would it be a briolette, onion or brilliant stone? Would it be a faceted stone catching the light or a sleek cabochon? Would it work best in gold plate or silver? On top of that there were over 8 of trays with different jewellery styles to select from too, it’s a good job we had a large cup of Earl Grey to help us through.
After much chain laying, stone nudging and gem shape changes we finally had a beautiful exclusive collection. Above you can see much of the hard work with glittering white druzy too good to resist, especially as a gold earring they scream get me to the beach!

For SS13 you can expect pretty pearl jewellery perfect for adding that finishing touch of Chanel like cool. Electric Labradorite with vivid Kyanite stones and white druzy for far flung escapism with the earrings being my buyers pick. If you’re after something feminine and petite these Blue Topaz and apatite pieces are iseal for keeping cool on balmy summer nights. With it hitting our shelves this weekend you better get it before it’s gone!

Sapphire Engagement Rings…
When it comes to your engagement ring it has to be just right, this is a piece of jewellery you will wear every day, you want to treasure and pass down to future generations. Here at EC One we specialise in making dreams a reality, anything is possible when it comes to creating the perfect design for you.
Sapphire engagement rings have long been overshadowed by the now traditional diamond and we think it’s about time their beauty and timeless appeal was fully appreciated! Choosing a sapphire as your engagement puts you in excellent company…

Prince William famously chose the engagement ring given to Lady Diana by Prince Charles in 1981 when he proposed to Kate Middleton. The 12-carat oval blue Ceylon sapphire is elegantly set in 18 carat white gold surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds. This style of ring unsurprisingly saw a massive surge in popularity in both 1981 and more recently in 2010.

Harking back a little further in history to 1776 takes us to the engagement of Napoleon and Josephine. A simple gold band decorated with two pear shaped gems; a deep blue sapphire and white diamond nestle together facing opposite directions. This particular ring made the headlines recently when it went up for auction with a guide price of $20,000 but actually made 50 times that sum, eventually selling for $949,000! The auction took place on 24th March this year in honour of Josephine’s birth 250 years earlier. Josephine is said to have cherished the ring and continued to pass it down as a family heirloom.

If you’re thinking about taking the next step with your loved one, our goldsmiths are always on hand to give expert advice. Whether it’s a sapphire, a diamond or an aquamarine that takes your fancy we want to make you something that could be in your family for another 250 years.
Is Gold Losing It’s Shine?

During the past week our news has been overwhelmed with the awful bombing in Boston and closer to home, Baroness Thatcher’s funeral, so you might not have noticed that the price of Gold fell over 20% in the space of a few days. The biggest drop in 30 years was completely unpredicted and has left some city traders very nervously checking their investments.
When we started EC One in 1997 the price of Gold was around $300 per ounce and was reasonably stable. When customers ask me to update their insurance valuations most are completely shocked at what the present replacement cost is. Over the past decade the price per ounce has climbed gently with a significant increase starting in 2008 and peaking at $1900 in 2011. This has largely been blamed on investors who sought to find a safe haven for their reserves.

Companies cashing in on buying scrap gold and holding onto to it as the gold price rose have sprung up everywhere. During the economic crisis some of the most profitable businesses have been cash for gold buyers and the traditional pawnbrokers (even Tesco got in on the act!). Before investors decided that gold was a safe haven, 80-90% of it was used in the manufacture of jewellery. In 2010, gold jewellery accounted for approximately only 54% of gold demand.
Here at EC One the price of gold can and does affect what our customers are paying on a weekly basis. Because we offer a bespoke service and mostly our jewellery is made in gold, we need to keep a very keen eye on the gold price. Unlike a lot of our competitors we make our gold and platinum jewellery in our own workshop to order and any dip in prices can benefit the customer straight away. Sadly an increasing number of jewellers have given up their workshops and buy in pre-made designs from abroad. Not only do they lose the traditional Goldsmiths skills these mass-manufactured pieces will most likely have been bought in for a price fixed 6 months previously, negating any benefit.
Over the past week we have been inundated with calls from customers who are looking to see if now would be a good time to buy that piece they have been putting off having commissioned. The drop in the past week would mean a real difference of about 15% less on a pair of wedding bands, and about 10% on a bespoke engagement ring. As I’m sure any prospective bride and groom will tell you, is a very welcome saving.
